Rose, a Trinidadian-Canadian, grew up in Montreal and began her fine art studies @ Bishop’s University, Sherbrooke Quebec. After moving to British Columbia, she received her diploma in Painting and Printmaking from the University College of the Fraser Valley and eventually, certification as an Expressive Arts Therapist from Langara College. She has worked for years within the creative and commercial arts fields. Rose incorporates into her art practice twenty years of experience as a medical consumer and advocate as well as her unique racial and cultural heritage.
Painting for well over 25 years, Rose has developed a unique and technically demanding method of layering different medium over one another. Seen up close and personal, a viewer can discern the distinct and subtle qualities of charcoal, pastel, ink, watercolour, and oil paint.
Rose enjoys creating two different types of work, those that are inspired and related to the real environment, such as portraits and landscapes and the subjective, symbolic world of her own internal landscapes. Inspired by the work of Jung, Rank, Hillman and the pioneers of Expressive Art therapy Rose pursues her interests in the therapeutic applications and uses of art for society as well as her own healing journey through life.
