My work references identity and personal expression— a bricolage of my desire to salvage and reuse, mixing traditional techniques with unconventional elements or materials.
As a non-recyclable material, I create jewellery from empty beauty product packaging in an attempt to imbue value into what is destined to become landfill waste. Due to the nature of collecting and reusing empty containers, no two pieces will ever be the same.
I enjoy deconstructing beauty product packaging - preserving and interweaving barcodes and text allows me to highlight or subvert the language of marketing. Many of the pieces appear to be growing petals out of a tangle of plastic as if they could find a way to grow and transform themselves from their own destiny. In a similar vein to grass or flowers finding their way through a crack in the concrete. However inhospitable, life carries on.
