Manitoba born, but BC grown since the age of 3, Jenn Brisson was born with a pencil in hand and has always had a liking for all things creepy. In school she was known as the “school artist” and sometimes “weirdo”. After graduating, Jenn enrolled herself in the Classical Animation Program at VFS in 1995, fitting in nicely amongst the other weirdoes. Soon after, Jenn started working in the animation industry, and did so for 12 years. In addition to Vancouver, work took her to places such as California, Phoenix, Korea and China and worked on films like “Space Jam”, “Prince of Egypt” and “Curious George”.
All those years working in animation have contributed to Jenn’s style of art. Being interested in the darkness she feels in the world as well as the cute and cartoony, makes for a fun and interesting blend.
Jenn loves playing with colours in her paintings. Her techniques have included patterned paper, ripped tissue, pen, marker, sparkles and even White-Out. Her subjects as of late have been of wrinkly Moon Men, stitched up burlesque marionettes and her mischievous Teddymares, which can be seen around town, usually painted on old skateboards.
Which takes us to her obsession with collecting things. Jenn likes to salvage what others might consider garbage. Especially, items that could one day be used as canvas. Most recently, her favourites include broken and used skateboards as well as old and abandoned instruments.
Currently Jenn works at a Sound Studio in North Van and jams with her friends while living happily in Kits with her pet python, bearded dragon, tarantula, cat and very understanding boyfriend…
